IAPMO Again Promotes and Celebrates National High-Performance Building Week

As it has done for nearly a decade, IAPMO played an integral role in national High-Performance Building Week. This year’s event recognized the importance of the built environment and celebrate the contributions of engineers, architects, builders, code officials, tradespeople, design professionals, and laborers in the construction industry.

High-Performance Building Week is organized annually by a private sector coalition of building industry stakeholders that support the High-Performance Building Coalition (HPBC), of which Dain Hansen, IAPMO’s Senior Vice President of Government Relations, is chairman. The HPBC provides guidance and support to the High-Performance Building Caucus of the U.S. Congress. The theme of this year’s event is “Building the Industry of the Future.”

“This year promises to be another successful High-Performance Building Week,” Hansen said. “We have seen tremendous support, interest, and participation for the events and policy initiatives proposed by the High-Performance Building Coalition. Due to the impact of this broad, bipartisan coalition, we are seeing broad enthusiasm from policymakers across Capitol Hill and the Administration and look to continuing the success of the Coalition Policy Priorities moving forward.”

The IAPMO Group participated in each of the events this week:

  • Congressional Briefing: Building the Industry of the Future: Findings and Recommendations from the Consultative Council
      Tuesday, June 12, noon-1 p.m.
Location: 2322 Rayburn House Office Building
  • High Performance Building Coalition Day on the Hill
      Wednesday, June 13, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Coalition members are heading to Capitol Hill to meet with High Performance Building Congressional Caucus members and their staff.
  • Congressional Reception
      Wednesday, June 13, 5-6:30 p.m.
Location: 2322 Rayburn House Office Building
  • Congressional Briefing: Standards — Tools for Innovative Infrastructure Solutions
      Thursday, June 14, noon-1 p.m.
Location: 2226 Rayburn House Office Building

“This week is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the major impact buildings have on public health, safety and the environment,” said Rep. Peter Welch (D-Vermont). “I look forward to discussing the challenges and opportunities we face in improving building performance with our partners in the High-Performance Building Coalition and the Congressional High-Performance Building Caucus.”

The High-Performance Building Caucus of the U.S. Congress was formed to heighten awareness and inform policymakers about the major impact buildings have on our health, safety, and welfare, and the opportunities to design, construct, and operate high-performance buildings that reflect our concern for these impacts. Fundamental to these concerns include protecting life and property, developing novel building technologies, facilitating and enhancing U.S. economic competitiveness, increasing energy efficiency in the built environment, assuring buildings have minimal climate change impacts and are able to respond to changes in the environment, and supporting the development of private sector standards, codes, and guidelines that address these concerns.
