GSA, DOE Issue RFI for Innovative Building Technologies to Improve Federal and Commercial Building Performance

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a joint Request for Information (RFI) for next-generation building technologies that have the potential to improve the operational efficiency of federal and commercial buildings, and provide a solid return on investment.

The RFI invites technology manufacturers and industry to submit information on technologies that are nearly ready for commercial use, or in the early stages of commercial application, for evaluation through GSA Proving Ground (GPG) program and DOE's High Impact Technology Innovation Catalyst (HIT Catalyst). Selected technologies will be matched with federally owned buildings and/or commercial buildings, for third-party measurement and verification. Project results are intended to help validate the technical and operational characteristics of the technology and its potential for future deployment.

This year, the RFI is seeking technologies in the following categories:

  • Behind-the-Meter Load Optimization: Technologies that optimize behind-the-meter generation, building loads, storage, or any combination of these, to provide resiliency, energy efficiency, and/or enable participation in dynamic rate structures.
  • Improving Overall Building Operations and Maintenance: Technologies that either help operators better understand when buildings are not functioning within operational or design parameters, or dynamically correct these faults without operator intervention. This may include tools that enable the identification, prioritization, and improvement of physical building components or software systems, or both.

The RFI will be open for submissions until Friday, December 8, 2017. Parties interested in submitting an application can review the RFI on FedBizOpps.gov, available directly at https://goo.gl/jmBGMe.  Please direct inquiries regarding the RFI to gpg@gsa.gov.

About GSA’s Proving Ground (GPG) Program
The GPG program works with third-party evaluators to test innovative pre- and early-commercial building technologies in federally-owned buildings. The program enables GSA to make sound investment decisions in next generation building technologies based on their real world performance. Following favorable evaluation results, nine GPG-evaluated technologies have been deployed across over 200 facilities in GSA’s portfolio.
