IAPMO's DeMarco Returns as Guest on Home Talk USA
IAPMO Director of Special Programs Pete DeMarco made a second appearance as a guest on "Cajun Contractor" Michael King's nationally syndicated radio program, "Home Talk USA." Broadcast in 217 radio markets covering all 50 states, the program reaches 6.1 million listeners each week.
DeMarco answered King's questions about graywater and harvested rainwater reuse, the energy of water and the tangible contractor and consumer benefits of IAPMO's Green Plumbing and Mechanical Supplement.
"When you think about it, water has to be pumped from where it is, whether it be surface water or ground water, taken from its location wherever it resides, in a reservoir or well, and pumped first to a treatment center," DeMarco said. "Now, in many places you can use gravity for a lot of that movement, but still you've got to have some order of plumbing. Then, of course, once it gets to your house it gets used, and in the case of hot water gets heated and that, of course, is where the greatest energy quotient resides. The reason we are concerned about that is most folks don't realize how much energy is actually involved in all of this, but on a national level 13 percent of all the energy we consume is used in the moving, treatment, heating and wastewater re-treatment of the water we consume."
