Green Plumbing & Mechanical Code Supplement Available for Pre-order
IAPMO is now taking pre-orders for the highly anticipated Green Plumbing & Mechanical Code Supplement.
Available on February 1 of this year, the publication spells out the best sustainable plumbing and mechanical building practices in simple, straightforward code language.
The Green Supplement will complement IAPMO’s Uniform Codes — or any other adopted plumbing and mechanical code — by introducing additional language pertaining to water and energy efficiency, HVAC system commissioning, the use of alternate water sources, such as gray water and harvested rainwater, and increased indoor environmental quality.
IAPMO’s involvement in sustainable initiatives predates current trends, as the Uniform Codes have long included provisions for water-efficient plumbing products, grey water and reclaimed water systems, solar energy systems and environmentally friendly refrigerants.
The development of the Green Supplement boosts this commitment to another level.
“The building and plumbing codes are perhaps the biggest hindrance to the adoption of green buildings,” says David Viola, director of Special Services for IAPMO. “There’s so little information about how to do green systems properly and safely within existing building codes, so we’re rolling out a document that shows how it’s done.”
