WaterSense Provisions Included in Senate Infrastructure Bill
Kicking off the fifth annual Infrastructure Week, U.S. Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Jon Boozman (R-AR) on Tuesday introduced The Clean Safe Reliable Water Infrastructure Act, bipartisan omnibus infrastructure legislation seeking to amend the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Federal Water Pollution Control Act to add provisions relating to drinking water and wastewater infrastructure, including the formal federal establishment of the U.S. EPA's WaterSense program, which would extend the vastly successful water efficiency product labeling program in perpetuity. IAPMO has been a vocal proponent of WaterSense since its inception more than a decade ago.

A poll commissioned by the Value of Water Campaign revealed that 67 percent of Americans believe rebuilding the nation's infrastructure is an extremely or very important priority — the highest percentage of any other national issue by a double-digit margin. Infrastructure Week (www.infrastructureweek.org, #timetobuild) brings together 280 affiliate organizations for a national week of events, media coverage, education, and advocacy efforts to elevate infrastructure as a critical issue impacting all Americans.

"Infrastructure is a priority of the Trump Administration and this Congress, and we are thrilled that Congress recognizes the importance that demand-side water contributes to our nation's overall foundation," said Dain Hansen, Senior Vice President of IAPMO Government Affairs. "We look forward to working across all parties and both chambers of congress to settle on language that can be signed into law officially recognizing the WaterSense program."

Legislative Updates... Tesla CEO Says Company to Start Selling Solar Roof Tiles
Tesla announced this week that its solar roof tiles are now for sale. Tesla CEO Elon Musk first made the announcement on early Wednesday by tweeting that ordering would begin later in the day. The tiles will be sold worldwide. They'll go to U.S. customers first this year and to other countries next year. Palo Alto, California-based Tesla, which makes electric cars, announced last fall that it would produce the tiles with solar power company SolarCity Corp. Tesla and SolarCity completed a merger in November. The glass tiles are designed to look like a traditional roof, with options that replicate slate or terracotta tiles. They contain photovoltaic cells that Tesla says are invisible from the street. The energy from the tiles can power a home when combined with Tesla's Powerwall energy storage unit.

Position changed. What do we do with the employee?

Question: : We hired an employee last year. The company was looking for someone with a certain background. However, since then, our company has changed directions and will no longer require someone of this caliber. We will be keeping the position but changing the rate and experience to less than what the current employee is at. Can we terminate for these reasons? If not is there another way that we can handle this?

Response: The employer is well within its rights to restructure any one or more positions within the organization to better meet the needs of the company. You indicate that although the employer hired an employee last year with a certain background, since then the company has changed directions and will no longer require someone of that caliber. Essentially, you advise that the employer is looking to lower the requirements of the position, and with it, the rate of pay. There is no law that prohibits the employer from proceeding with this course of action if there are legitimate business justifications for its decision.
