Tip of the Month
This will be one of the last Tip of The Month column that I will be doing for the monthly newsletter as an employee of the RPA. I’ve made the decision (along with three medical practitioners) to remove myself from the stress, before the stress removes me from life.

I am going back to being self-employed, and I intend to complete the development and introduction of some new (to the U.S.) and innovative radiant products, along with providing training and other troubleshooting services that I did before becoming an employee of the RPA. I wanted tell you that I intend to stay active with the RPA as a member, but from the outside instead of the inside. [Read more]

Member Spotlight — We want to Publish Your Project Photos!
The RPA would like to "spotlight" members in our monthly newsletter. If you have something new to promote, a current project you are working on, etc. please send the information to denise.voorhees@iapmo.org and we will place it in our monthly newsletter. We will need the particulars: Who, What, When, Where and Why and limit it to 200 words or less and 6 photographs. We want to Publish Your Project Photos! This is your opportunity to garner additional exposure. Tell us about your company and its accomplishments, and provide us with some HD pictures so we can show the world your excellent work. This is not limited to contractors only. If you are a wholesaler, or a distributor or a manufacturer, this program is open to you as well. Help us to help you promote you and your business.

Legislative Updates — Solar Workforce Showed Continued Growth Through 2016
The Solar Foundation's 2016 National Solar Jobs Census shows the industry now employs more than 260,000 Americans. The report found that as the number of solar installations in the U.S. raced past 1 million in 2016, solar companies were hiring tens of thousands of Americans and growing the solar workforce by 51,000 workers, or 25 percent nationwide since 2015. This is the largest annual growth since The Solar Foundation began the Solar Jobs Census in 2010. When put in context with overall U.S. job growth, one out of every 50 new American jobs was in the solar industry last year, which is creating jobs 17 times faster than the rest of the U.S. economy. The new census also showed sizeable gains in diversity by both race and gender finding that women now make up 28 percent of the solar workforce, up from 24 percent.

This is just one of the articles of information in the RPA Washington Update. As an RPA member, you should be receiving weekly updates on the recent activity of our legislature. If you are not receiving these updates, please let us know.

We dropped under 50 employees, does FMLA still apply?

Question: Our company recently made some changes, and we no longer have more than 50 employees. How do we handle our prior FMLA obligations (50 or more employees)? Do we have to wait a certain time period before we no longer are required to provide FMLA leave?

Response: Yes, if an employer drops below the 50-employee threshold typically required for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) coverage, indeed there is a certain time period that an employer must wait before it ceases being a covered employer for purposes of the Act. The employer will need to comply with its obligations under the FMLA as to any eligible employees, until such time as it is no longer a covered employer. [Read more]
