IAPMO Solicits Public Comments for 2018 Uniform Solar/Hydronics and Swimming Pool Codes
The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO®), publisher of the Uniform Solar Energy and Hydronics Code (USEHC) and Uniform Swimming Pool, Spa and Hot Tub Code (USPSHTC), is calling for public comments on the 2017 Report on Proposals for the 2018 editions of these American National Standard designated model codes.
The public comment form, as well as instructions and background on IAPMO's ANSI-accredited consensus development process, can be found at http://codes.iapmo.org/form_comments_usehc_uspshtc_2018.aspx. All comments should indicate the exact wording recommended as accepted as submitted, accepted as modified or rejected, as well as state the problem the recommendation will resolve and the specific reason for making the comment.
No comments will be accepted after the 5 p.m. PDT deadline on June 20. All public comments will be distributed to the Technical Committee members in September and reviewed at their meetings Oct. 24-25 in Ontario, Calif. Copies of the Report on Proposals will not be available in hardcopy. Interested parties are encouraged to download a digital version at http://codes.iapmo.org/default.aspx.

Tip of the Month
This will be one of the last Tip of The Month column that I will be doing for the monthly newsletter as an employee of the RPA. I’ve made the decision (along with three medical practitioners) to remove myself from the stress, before the stress removes me from life.
I am going back to being self-employed, and I intend to complete the development and introduction of some new (to the U.S.) and innovative radiant products, along with providing training and other troubleshooting services that I did before becoming an employee of the RPA. Legislative Updates — Solar Workforce Showed Continued Growth Through 2016
The Solar Foundation's 2016 National Solar Jobs Census shows the industry now employs more than 260,000 Americans. The report found that as the number of solar installations in the U.S. raced past 1 million in 2016, solar companies were hiring tens of thousands of Americans and growing the solar workforce by 51,000 workers, or 25 percent nationwide since 2015. This is the largest annual growth since The Solar Foundation began the Solar Jobs Census in 2010. When put in context with overall U.S. job growth, one out of every 50 new American jobs was in the solar industry last year, which is creating jobs 17 times faster than the rest of the U.S. economy. The new census also showed sizeable gains in diversity by both race and gender finding that women now make up 28 percent of the solar workforce, up from 24 percent.
