Fix a Leak

You, the Anonymous Hero

Remember back in the day, you'd be at a school assembly and they wanted everybody to participate?

If you're like most of us, we did everything we could not to be noticed.

Well "Fix a Leak Week" is coming up soon. Actually it's March 16 – 22 this year and the goal is to do something, whether it is actually fixing a leak or some other way to save water.

Here's a list of something you can do in the privacy of your own residence, business or cardboard box. You save water and no one is watching you.

1. Fix a leak in your:

  • Bathtub
  • Shower
  • Lavatory
  • Water closet
  • Kitchen sink
  • Laundry sink
  • Hose bibb

2. Reduce flow or consumption rates:

  • Install a High Efficient Water Closet (HET) 1.28 gpf
  • Install a new High Efficient Shower Head 1.5 gpm
  • Replace or install Aerators on appropriate fixtures 1.5 gpm
  • Replace your clothes washer with a High Efficient model
  • Turn off your fixed irrigation system or stop hand watering for that one week.

Looking for something to promote your business and even maybe repeat business?

Add a line about "Fix a Leak Week" in your phone greeting. Something like:

Thanks for call XYZ Plumbing. Did you know this is Fix a Leak week? How may we help you today? Or some variation there of.

If you're inclined, have a drawing for gift certificate.

Let those who call in for service know they are now entered to win the $XXXX Gift Certificate. Encourage them to call in after the work is completed to let management know how satisfied they are. Tell them to mention, "Fix a Leak Week" to have their name added to the drawing for a second time, doubling their chances to win.

We'll be checking back in a couple of weeks to see if you would like to share what you did to participate.

Want to do more and maybe "win" a Starbucks gift card? Go to this website:

In the third paragraph there is a link to collect information to learn about water wasted while waiting for hot water. It only takes a few minutes to complete and the data you provide may help future buildings be designed to be more water and energy efficient.

One more thing...

March 11 is World Plumbing Day, sponsored by the World Plumbing Council. Take a look here:
