IAPMO’s DeMarco Appears on “Home Talk USA” Radio Program
IAPMO Director of Special Programs Pete DeMarco appeared recently as a guest on “Cajun Contractor” Michael King’s nationally syndicated radio program, “Home Talk USA.” Broadcast in 217 radio markets covering all 50 states, the program reaches 6.1 million listeners each week.
DeMarco answered King’s questions about the “green movement” toward construction sustainability and IAPMO’s role in promoting it through outreach, advocacy and code development.
“Historically, Michael, the codes have been primarily focused, and rightfully so, on health and safety, and that’s not about to change,” DeMarco said. “But to some, the codes have been seen as barriers to new technology, because often times you might have a plumbing or building inspector come to a building that is being constructed and may not understand the type of technology that’s being installed or may have a very good reason for not allowing that technology to be put in place. But what we are facing in terms of challenges with water scarcity, declining water quality and our increasing energy needs, we need to change that perception and make it known we’re actually here to help enable new technologies that address these needs.”
