DFW Becomes First WaterSense Airport
New WaterSense Partner Will Yield 5.5 Million Gallons Per Month Water Savings
DALLAS -- The Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport (DFW) has recently become the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) newest WaterSense Partner in EPA Region 6 and the first airport governmental organization to become a promotional partner under the national WaterSense Program.
"As one of the world's busiest airports, any steps Dallas/Fort Worth International takes to become better stewards of our water resources has a huge impact," said EPA Regional Administrator Al Armendariz. "By becoming WaterSense partners, they have set a standard in environmental management for other airports to follow."
As a WaterSense Partner, DFW promotes WaterSense products and exhibits their water efficiency efforts to millions of travelers each year. The airport is currently saving 5.5 million gallons of water per month, after installing new water fixtures in the restrooms of all five of its passenger terminals. Terminal restroom renovations at DFW are currently 90 percent complete with 230 WaterSense labeled urinals and 750 water-efficient water closets and sinks installed.

WaterSense is a voluntary partnership program sponsored by EPA that seeks to protect future water supply by offering people a simple way to use less water. The partners pledge a commitment to showcase water-efficient products, practices and services. The program also provides a variety of information on water-efficient topics and publications.
On March 14, 2011, EPA launched "Fix a Leak Week" as a reminder of the environmental and economic benefits of fixing leaks from household plumbing fixtures and irrigation systems.
